I don't feel like myself today.
I feel like I'm in a funk.
No fun.

Opposites attract?
Recently I've had a couple of conversations with a few of my (single) friends about the type of person someone goes for or is attracted to. Do opposites really attract or do you need someone more similar to your own personality? The consensus is that a person needs someone more opposite from themselves to 'balance things out'. I should probably ask some of my coupled friends...
Anyways, this got me to thinking and I really think it depends on the situation and the people, obviously. When I think about what I would want in a significant other, I think I would want someone more like myself. We would have more in common, right? For example, I just can't see myself with someone really conservative and dependent which is the opposite of my independent, liberal self. I suppose we could have some really good 'discussions' but if we both are stubborn and not willing to budge, that could be a problem. I mean I will listen to other viewpoints and opinions, but will want to share my own thoughts and opinions and will ultimately think I'm right every time. It's just how I am.
When I think about the couples I know, I guess I would have to say that the opposite attraction theory holds up. Most of them are more opposite than alike I suppose, yet all have some similar qualities.
Interesting...so maybe I should be looking for someone more opposite than similar. It's a tough call though and really very dependent on the situation.
I'll post an update if and when I find a significant other and analyze the differences and similarities that he brings to the table. ;)

Suck.
Some people have the ability to suck the life out of other people. They are just so good at draining your emotions and making you feel rather insignificant in this thing we call life. I don't like to feel this way.
I have had the opportunity to be around some of those types in the past few days. I can't believe how much it took out of me. I have never felt so emotionally drained and almost dead to the world. I felt like a zombie and was so exhausted I could feel no emotions. It was terrible.
I hope to return to normal soon and surround myself with the non-sucking people. I like to surround myself with positive, non-judgemental, happy people. So if I haven't seen you in a while, I'm probably talking about you; the wonderful and awesome people in my life.
And if you think about it, try to send a little positive energy and some happy thoughts my way; I could really use them about now.
Peace and love.

transition time
Now that the school year is all wrapped up and my summer internship doesn't start for a few weeks, I am in limbo. I wanted this couple of weeks to relax and get my stuff together to make my transition to Sioux Falls a little bit smoother. I also have to make a trip home for cousin's graduations and to see my lovely family. So I will head to my childhood home tomorrow for about a week. Wish me luck because I will need it.
I love going home and spending time with my parents, brother, sister-in-law, niece, and pets. I do miss them all...but trips home are often a hit or miss thing with me. I can usually only last about 5 days before the boredom gets really intense. It may be different this time since my dad is hurt and will be home during the days this week. So at least I will have an actual person to talk to instead of just the cats. They also just got high-speed internet so maybe I will do a little blogging to curb the boredom.
But it seems lately, that my mom and I are not on the same page once again and nothing I do is right. So that means I will have to be on my toes and watch what I say as I do not want another argument, like the one that took place over easter. Tensions will also be raised a bit due to visiting family members; I really just have to put my 'happy face' on and try to make the best of it.
So while I would love to be going to Tennessee with my friend this week, I instead am making the short trek home. Like I mentioned before, wish me luck.

graduate school vs. the real world
4 finals down and 1 to go. I actually should be studying right now...oh well!
So today was my Sociological Theory final and I am really going to miss that class. It was probably one of the toughest classes intellectually that I have taken, but it was just so wonderful. My professor was a little scary and intimidating, yet by far the most brilliant one in SDSU's sociology department.
This new found love of theory makes me wonder if I should go to graduate school for sociology. I think it would be great, but what would I do with it? Teach? Yikes. I don't know about that.
I really do kind of wish I was going to graduate school right away after undergrad. I just need some more direction in life as to what I would go for so bring on the work experience, right? Double yikes. (especially in this economy) I hope to narrow down my career path soon though and attend graduate school in a few years.
I do blame my uncertainty about my future career on the fact that I wasn't supposed to graduate until May 2010. I was going to use that 5th year to figure out some life plans and check into some grad programs, etc. But here I am almost a full year early and haphazardly trying to figure things out.
I have only known life as a student for the past 17 years and I guess I now need to try to learn a new role: responsible working adult.
Triple yikes.

Randomness
So even though it has been about a week since I've last blogged, I feel like I have neglected it a bit. I just don't really know what to write about...so here are some random thoughts.
I've made to the top of the rock wall twice since I started climbing and feel pretty good about my progress. I wish I could stay with it throughout the summer, but don't know how that is possible.
I've once again realized that I have so many good people in my life. I have been really happy as of late and am a lucky girl for all that I have. I wouldn't be where I am today without many of them.
I am getting really nostalgic and reminiscent around Brookings and campus. I still can't believe that I will be done with my undergrad classes. I am taking mental pictures of my surroundings, so that in 10, 20, or 30 years, I will hopefully remember what I was feeling and what things looked like when I was 22 and about to graduate; the uncertainty of having your life and the world before you.
I have accumulated numerous bruises in the past week. Some I can see and others I can only feel. Some are on my legs and from the rock wall, others are from Melissa falling on me on the dance floor, and there are a few that I have no idea where they came from.
I wish I could read people better because then I wouldn't read into words and actions quite as much. I could just 'know' instead of assuming some things and then finding out how right or wrong I was.
Well that was indeed random, but I guess my thoughts have been somewhat scattered lately.
